You don't have to remove the gear, but take the three bolts out that hold it to the frame, have your buddy lift up on it from the driver's side ,& this will give you room to get the nut off with an open- end wrench, & enough room to cut through the pitman arm with a 3" cutoff wheel. I just drilled the arm straight threw for a 5/8 bolt. Used a grade 8 bolt and used a grade 8 lock nut to keep it nice and tight. Never really had a problem with the Pitman arm end.
